WE ARE HIRING JOIN OUR TEAM The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for an Heavy Equipment Operator I- Waste MGT/ Curbside Div Position Overview: Responsible for removing yard and other debris from city rights of way in residential areas and city streets, collection and transporting yard debris and other materials to the landfill, and operating heavy equipment for sanitation collection. Reports to the Waste Management Crew Leader/Public Works Supervisor. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS : Operates a variety of machinery and equipment to include boom trucks, backhoes, leaf trucks, front- end loaders, dump trucks, garbage trucks, and lawn mowers. Serves as the Lead Operator in the field for Sanitation Collection. Works to develop efficient waste collection routes and safe working environments. Reports violations of collection requirements to supervisor. Responds to customer requests and complaints. Loads, unloads, and transports solid waste and debris to ensure appropriate collection and disposal. Maintains and cleans equipment and performs minor cleaning and maintenance on assigned vehicles, reporting needed repairs to supervisor or the City Fleet Service Center. Utilizes hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required. Performs street and road maintenance and keeps streets and rights-of-way clean and free of debris. Acts as backup driver for sanitation truck and assists with Streets & Grounds Maintenance as needed. Refers to manuals pertaining to heavy equipment, vehicle, playground safety, government liability exposure, safety, tools/equipment, and work zone safety. Interacts and communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with established policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Wears and maintains all personal safety protective equipment properly and reports unsafe work practices, injuries, or illnesses immediately to supervisor/management. Attends meetings and training to enhance knowledge and skills. Available to work weekends as needed. Serves on call for storm activation or other street related matters 24 hours a day. Physical Requirements & Working Environment: Must be able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment and push, lift, reach, carry, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, crouch, and crawl to move objects. Must possess good eye/hand/foot coordination. Work involves sitting, walking, or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 100 pounds.
