Position is eligible for Hybrid/Flex work arrangement. This is a full time, exempt role. Overview/Summary: A Senior Accountant on the Property & Casualty (P&C) Reporting team develops and reports financial information for the primary operating segments of The Hanover Insurance Group, a public, world class regional P&C Company. This includes matters of accounting and disclosure for GAAP external reporting on forms 10K and 10Q to the SEC. Also assists in coordinating and reviewing P&C business segment results and prepares internal quarterly analysis binder and other high profile financial management reports used by executive management. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare complex journal entries and reconciliations and/or performs detail review of simple to moderately complex journal entries or reconciliations. Responsible for preparation of roll forwards and documenting the accounting for key non-routine business transactions. Review and detailed analysis of external reported GAAP results of the P&C business segments and prepare executive summaries. Independently prepares and analyzes complex financial statements, footnotes and sections of discussion and analysis. Support the identification, research, resolution and communication of assigned P&C accounting and disclosure matters affecting financial reporting, including, but not limited to new accounting pronouncements and potentially complex reinsurance, state assessments and/or external acquisitions. May be required to review simple to moderately complex work papers of peers and more junior team members. Participates in or may have accountability for key initiatives or other assignments within or outside of own unit. Requires significant interaction with management and staff throughout the Company, particularly business unit finance officers, actuaries and corporate financial management, as well as the Company's legal counsel, external auditors and regulators. Support of the team's internal controls surrounding the collection and reporting financial information (Sarbanes-Oxley key controls). Required Experience: 3-6 years of related experience Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Access Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience. CPA or MBA preferred PeopleSoft preferred Insurance experience preferred Applies analytical techniques, e.g., separating a complex whole into its parts or elements to resolve problems or issues. Understands and applies financial and accounting principles to analyze financial results, track budgets, and report financials. Fosters an environment where individuals collaborate in pursuit of a common goal internally and externally to the team. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment.Ability to work in a fast-paced stressful environment.Ability to work cooperatively.
